Last post of the day " GN " Protein Supplements Could Be Bad For Athletic Performance

A new report released by researchers in Canada has found that certain protein supplements used by athletes could actually hurt their performances, not to mention their bodies.

The report, which comes from Martin Frechette at the University of Montreal, found that athletes typically misuse the supplements and are unaware of the effects which can occur, affects which can include nausea, exhaustion, poor vision and ultimately liver trouble.

According to the study, 90% of athletes said they took protein supplements, while 80 percent of respondents already had enough protein in their diet. By increasing their already normal levels athletes expose themselves to high levels of magnesium, niacin, folate levels, vitamin A, iron and sodium.

If those risks aren’t bad enough, the report also suggests that many ingredients are not regulated and therefore may not be listed on the products labels, some ingredients which could actually be illegal in the world of sports.
